Identifying and Collecting Mushrooms Around Cordova
Sept. 16th at 2:00 pm
By Carol Hernley and Allen Marquette
ORIENTATION
Common and poisonous mushrooms will be displayed and identified and
eco-safe harvesting techniques will be taught. Beginners should try to attend
this orientation so they don't waste bucket space on useless or dangerous
mushrooms. Old pros can skip this part and go straight to gathering. We
will divide up into gathering groups with guides at 3:00 and meet back at 5pm.
You will need a basket and knife for collecting. Plastic bags can crush delicate mushrooms. You might want to have a separate container for the mushrooms you can’t identify in case they are poisonous….You don’t want to contaminate the good mushrooms!
FORAY DISPLAY and FEAST!!!
Experienced and new shroomers can then meet for the final foray display at 5pm. We will identify, sample, show off and share our fungal treasures! We will also be cooking up the good mushrooms in a little butter after the fieldtrip. We should be done by 7pm.
Join us for an exciting hour of educational fun. All ages are welcome and our programs are free! Many of our programs include a hike or afternoon of exploration too.
